EMAN - Complete suite of programs for single particle analysis
1.30 (45) - released on 01/07/03A post-workshop release of EMAN with Python scripting support, Athlon specific compiles, New 'v2' GUI app, vis5d binaries and better ducumentation.
This is a post-workshop release of EMAN. Its major new feature is Python scripting support. A large number of bugfixes are also included. The long-standing bug (that we weren't aware of) with writing SPIDER stack-files has been fixed. A simple application called 'v2' has also been added for quick visualization of image files from the command line.
Athlon specific compiles are provided for the first time. This version will run significantly faster on Athlon processors (~30%). Note that you MUST use the included fftwgel library instead of the normal fftw library to see the full speed increase. Also note that it is fine to use a 'cluster' compile on a single machine. This will produce a negligible slowdown in refinement, but should function properly.
Unfortunately Python scripting support is only possible in the latest versions of Linux and IRIX. For this reason we will are providing binaries only for Mandrake 9.0, RH 8.0 and IRIX 6.5 (current C++ patchset may be required). We will also maintain a version for Redhat 7.2 without python support for compatibility with clusters that have not been upgraded. RH 7.3 is not a very stable OS release, and we do not suggest using it, although EMAN will compile without python support on this platform, just run ./bootstrap before /configure.
EMAN uses Gnu 'configure' for compilation now, and should be relatively easy to compile on most platforms, especially if only the non-graphical programs are required. Compilation instructions are included in the EMAN documentation for those using an unsupported platform.
If you are running IRIX 6.5 and get obscure errors about c libraries missing or version conflicts, you probably need to get a recent patchset for your C++ compiler/system libraries. Note that the QT libraries are in EMAN/altlib and will need to be moved to EMAN/lib. You may also need to symlink libqt-mt.so.3 to libqt.so.3 in lib. Other problems and you may have to recompile from source.
